A scientific view:  Healing takes place on a cellular level.  Scientist Dr. Candace Pert, a cellular biologist, has discovered that repressed powerful emotions affect our cells.  She has found that if an intense, powerful emotion is shut down/repressed, it instigates a chemical reaction, which causes changes in cell receptors.  This response blocks the interaction from one cell to another.  If this blockage remains it can eventually lead to physical illness.
